CHARACTER INFORMATION
CHARACTER NAME: Robb Stark
CANON: A Song of Ice and Fire
TIMELINE: the Red Wedding (chapter 51 Catelyn VII of A Storm of Swords)
AGE: 16
REFERENCE: wiki
PERSONALITY: Robb is the archetype of "the good king" — he is kind, just, brave and honorable, with a keen mind for military matters. Though he has a temper beneath his lord-king demeanor, he does not advocate violence or war, seeing no reason for torture, cruelty or unnecessary executions. He does his best to limit casualties on both sides, treating his prisoners of war well and justly, and is sympathetic to innocent victims of war.
He is, however, very young, and his inexperience, most especially in the political arena, has cost him much, despite his efforts and intentions to do right by his family and his people. He is a brilliant tactician and field general — he'd become known as "the Young Wolf," and there are tales being spread in Westeros about him riding his direwolf into battle, and even transforming into a wolf himself. He had been undefeated in battle, but his inability play politics had lost him the alliance of House Karstark, and eventually led to the betrayal of Houses Bolton and Frey, consummated by the infamous massacre latter dubbed as the Red Wedding.
As the heir of House Stark, he was raised in all its customs and beliefs, and with the expectation of someday becoming the Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North. The Stark words are Winter is Coming, a warning to always be prepared for the eventuality of winter and the difficulties it brings. The Starks traditionally follow the old gods, but since Robb's mother was from the South and worshipped the Seven, Robb's family became an interfaith household.
He is described as being every bit his father's son, despite taking after his mother in terms of appearance. He notably shares his father's keen sense of justice and moral stance that "the man who passes the sentence should swing the sword," as well as Ned's devotion to honor — the latter unfortunately to a fault. His marriage to Jeyne Westerling, the daughter of a minor Lannister bannerman, is testament to this, for when presented the choice of marrying a maiden he deflowered on a reckless night or maintaining a political alliance, he consciously and deliberately chose honor. He later admitted that sleeping with Jeyne was a stupid action but he'd been blinded by grief, and that marrying her was politically disastrous; however, he felt that the rules of honor his father had taught him left him no other choice.
The Starks highly value family, even exhibiting pack behavior that matches the direwolf on their sigil; in fact, Robb's father is attributed with the quote, "When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives." Thus Robb himself is caring and willing to do anything to keep his family safe — to the point that he'd gone to war to save his father and sisters. He was close with his siblings, particularly with his half-brother Jon Snow; he and Jon trained together since they were children, playacting as knights and heroes, and pranking their other siblings. In the height of the war, when Robb feared what would happen to the North should he die without issue, he proposed to name Jon his heir, despite Jon's bastard status. With the rest of his siblings he shared mutually loving relationships, and he also considered his father's ward Theon Greyjoy as a brother, which was why Theon's betrayal and (supposed) murder of Robb's brothers Bran and Rickon had affected him so badly.
As the war went on and he grew more and more burdened by his crown and the pressures of leading an army, he became more solemn and sullen, only taking solace in the company of his wife and her family. Coming in from his death, he's going to have a lot of guilt and self-loathing as he feels personally responsible for failing to save his family (with everyone dead or believed dead except Jon and Jeyne) and for losing the North. His anger and desire for vengeance will be intensified thanks to the Red Wedding, because compared to the show it was actually more disastrous in the books: most of Robb's 3,500 soldiers were slaughtered, and almost every major noble House in the North lost at least one immediate family member in the massacre. (That's not even counting the case of Lady Stoneheart, which Robb will not be pleased to find out about at all.)
ABILITIES:
→ Swordfighting: Robb has been trained in combat since he was big enough to walk, and he's described as muscular, strong and fast.
→ Lance Proficiency: Robb is said to be particularly skilled with a lance.
→ Warging: A warg is a skinchanger/beastling who is able to enter the mind of a wolf or dog, and the current generation of Stark children are all skinchangers to greater or lesser degrees. Robb is bonded to his direwolf, Grey Wind.
PERSONAL EFFECTS:
→ his crown, inspired by the ancient crowns of the Kings of Winter, a bronze circlet depicting runes of the First Men and decorated with nine black iron spikes shaped like longswords
→ his companion and bonded, Grey Wind, a lean direwolf with smoke grey fur and yellow eyes
PRIZED POSSESSION: Ice, the Starks' ancestral greatsword, a two-handed Valyrian steel blade spell-forged around four centuries ago. Robb would've inherited it, as the heir to House Stark, but he was killed before he could reclaim it from the Lannisters. (The significance of Ice to the Starks is highlighted by Jon's dreams of becoming a Stark and being given Ice, even though he knows it's rightfully Robb's.)
